About Protein
Protein is the nutrient that serves as your tissue's building blocks and fosters growth. As a mom, you and baby need protein to ensure your body can build, repair and maintain your muscles, connective tissue, skin and organs. There are a lot of protein-rich foods, they include animal products, such as meat, fish, eggs, dairy, poultry and seafood. The vegetarian options of protein comes from beans, nuts, lentils, soy and seeds.
Protein and Lactation
Consuming an adequate amount of protein while pregnant provides you with optimal nutrition to maintain lean tissue and ensures your milk supply provides protein for your baby’s growing tissues. During lactation, your body uses protein to produce breast milk and to sustain your growing baby. It helps your baby grow new cells in his organs, muscles and brain.

Drink protein shakes while breastfeeding
We get a lot of questions from moms and moms to be, whether it is safe to take protein supplements when they are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Ask your Doctor!
We would like to start by highlighting the fact that pregnancy and early motherhood are extremely personalised, every individual is different and may have specific requirements or a need for special caution. We do recommend that prior to taking protein supplements, breastfeeding women should seek independent advice from their doctors to ensure that the protein powder is right for them.
Check the labels closely
Looking at the ingredient labels of the protein powders in the market shows that way too many additives are inside most protein shakes. Hence, much of the confusion regarding the safety of protein powders relates to the added ingredients such as added sugars, artificial flavorings, thickeners, and preservatives as well as the risk of contamination of banned substances or heavy metals during the manufacturing of these powders. Trusting your brand and reading the nutrition label is essential in understanding the ingredients within the product and how much you should use to supplement your diet.
Everyone is different
Having adequate protein intake for moms is actually very important. Most of the time, new moms are so involved in ensuring that their babies are well that they miss out on taking care of themselves. Adequate protein can usually be attained by consuming whole food protein sources such as meat, fish, eggs, dairy products, tofu, beans, nuts and seeds. If moms are finding diet restrictions around protein sources from a balanced whole-food diet, vegetarian diet or not much of a meat-eater, Soluxe™ unflavoured range of products will be suitable to supplement your protein intake. Soluxe™ products are non-GMO, clean, organic ingredients - safe for moms while pregnant or breastfeeding.
Keep it clean and natural
Opting for a high-quality, clean protein powder provides that necessary nutrition in an incredibly convenient and easy to consume form. A smoothie, for example, can be whipped up in a flash and requires little to no preparation. Or you can add protein to yoghurt or porridge, or making something like a batch of bliss balls or pancakes, it will help to gradually increase your protein intake. These are easy ways to support postpartum healing and milk production. For those struggling with morning sickness, sleep deprivation or lack of time these healthy snack options can also be a great way to avoid turning to more processed snack foods if someone’s appetite has become affected.

What to avoid
However, not all protein powders are suitable for lactating mothers. It is recommended that protein powders with Fat Burning capabilities should be avoided. Many protein powders that are designed for athletes might contain something that is not meant for pregnant or nursing women such as extra caffeine, guarana, ginseng, green tea extract, etc. Stay away from fat burning mixes! They often contain stimulants that are dangerous for your baby. Hence Soluxe products like Matcha and Coffee Cacao are not suitable.
