Staying healthy during the holiday season

Staying healthy during the holiday season

Happy holidays from the Soluxe team!

It's the holiday season, the decade is almost ending, and Chinese New Year is upon us, so we have a lot to celebrate and lots of food to eat! It's easy to feel guilty during celebrations with friends and family so one reminder we have for you is that you don't have to diet over the holiday and festive season. It's called a celebration for a reason, so enjoy!

You can always get back to your routine until after the festive season; however, if you prefer to stick to your routine then here are some tips that can help you maintain:

1. Moderation is key. You don't have to restrict yourself during the holiday season. Eat those delicious pineapple tarts if you like but don't go all out.

2. Make room for veggies. Vegetables are a great low-calorie food that will fill you up. When you're at a dinner party or eating outside, make sure veggies make up most of your plate.

3. Have enough protein. Consuming protein, whether animal or plant-based, will keep you full for longer. When you're in the mood for snacks, why not reach out for greek yoghurt instead of cookies? You can even make delicious protein smoothies that will satisfy your cravings. (Check out our starter pack if you're looking for low calorie but deliciously flavoured vegan protein powder).

4. Eat slow and pause. Before you go for seconds, take a 10-minute break. It takes a few minutes for your brain to register that you're full, so drink some water first or make conversation before getting a second plate.

5. Don't drink your calories. This is an easy way to pack on a lot of calories. Be mindful of what you're drinking — we recommend drinking water with your meals. Maybe limit the number of drinks you have in a day so that it's easier to control.

6. Stay active. The last thing you want to do is exercise while your friends and family are having a fun time. You don't have to go to the gym — just take 30 minutes of your day to get some movement in right at home. You can go for a walk, do some bodyweight exercises, or do some yoga.

7. Plan ahead. If you have a dinner party in the evening, plan your day around it. You could eat something at home before the party so that you're not eating everything in sight there. Or you could get some exercise earlier in the day. Or you could focus on having healthier meals during the day.

Take these tips into consideration if you're worried about keeping to your diet during the holidays. However, remember that the holidays are meant for celebrations. Put the focus on family and friends and on having a great time. It's okay to indulge once in a while!
